RECIPE | MY NANAS CHOCOLATE MUNCH
I'm sharing a very nostalgic recipe today... my Nana's Chocolate Munch! For as long as I remember, growing up and living far away from our grandparents, a highlight of a visit to my Dad's mum, my Nana, was the delicious chocolate munch she ALWAYS had waiting for our arrival. She also had another recipe which I will share at a later date, a delicious Lemon Ice Cake. As this is an original recipe, if I were to try to describe and explain what 'Munch' is, its a chocolatey almost flapjack like consistency with a generous helping of melted Galaxy on top for the ultimate creamy and indulgent afternoon snack. Best served with a coffee and TV binge session in my opinion! I hope you love my Nana's Chocolate Munch as much as I do and would absolutely love you to share and tag me in your pictures if you try it out yourself!
YOU WILL NEED:
- 120g Margarine
- 120g Desiccated Coconut
- 120g Porridge Oats
- 60g Caster Sugar
- 1 tbsp Golden Syrup
- 3 heaped tbsp of Drinking Chocolate
- 250g Galaxy
METHOD:
Step 1 - Pre-heat the oven to 160°C
Step 2 - Melt the margarine, caster sugar & golden syrup gently in a saucepan
Step 3 - Stir in the coconut, oats & drinking chocolate off the heat
Step 4 - Press the mixture into a rectangle tin & bake in oven for 10 minutes (turn the tin around halfway to ensure an even bake)
Step 5 - Oven baked, remove from over, melt the Galaxy and pour it over the top making a swirly pattern with a fork
Step 6 - Place in the fridge to cool but don't leave too long to avoid it going hard (around 30 - 45 minutes)
Step 7 - Divide into around 14 rectangular pieces & enjoy!
Store in an air tight container or cake box with kitchen roll in between layers to avoid pieces sticking together. Keep out the fridge so it stays soft. This recipe makes around 14 pieces but I'd double the recipe if you want the Munch to last more than 24 hours as it soon seems to disappear!
TOP TIP: Always use Galaxy for the rich & creamy flavour!
